I’ve been looking forward to Saturday night for a long time. The forecast promised perfect conditions for astrophotography: clear skies and a new moon. I carefully selected a location, packed my backpack, and in an hour and a half, I arrived in Wachau, Austria. Instead of the anticipated beauty of the night sky, I was greeted by a downpour and endlessly overcast skies. Another attempt thwarted by unpredictable weather. Disappointed, I packed everything up and went to sleep.
I woke up at 2 a.m. and instinctively looked out the window. Outside, stars were shining in a perfectly clear sky. Quickly, I slipped out of my sleeping bag, made some tea and a snack, and set up my star tracker and camera. Finally, I started shooting. And what did I manage to capture? Something unique. Something I would never expect.
